Those formats are dependent on your hardware... I'm pretty sure only the GeForceFX and GeForce 6/7 series support D3DFMT_D32 (the Radeons stop at _D24xx iirc).

You can either open up the DX Caps Viewer to check your hardware, or as a proper solution, enumerate inside your code with the IDirect3D9::CheckDepthStencilMatch().

Check if your GPU is capable of handling such Z-buffer formats. D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE indicates that it isn't ;)

EDIT : Jack was faster :)

No, CapsViewer says I have support for D3DFMT_D32 (I've got GeForce 6600).

!EDIT! Oh, no it doesn't!!! It supports them only in REF mode! How can that be???

Not sure I get you here... The REFRAST is supposed to (although that isn't always the case as I found out [oh]) support all of the features/formats as per the D3D specification.

It will almost always support more things than your hardware does.

I would be expecting your GeForce 6600 to support D32 though, but if the caps say "no" you ain't gonna get very far. Are you running the latest drivers for your hardware?

I downloaded them from NVidia quite recently.

Provided you're feeding in the correct parameters to the enumeration code and/or DXCaps is telling you that D3DFMT_D32 is a no-go it might well be that I was wrong and the Nvidia 6-series does not support 32bit depth buffers [oh].

You've got much more message icons than I do :( I'm thinking about GDNet+ already :)

GDNet+ is great [grin]

Although, all the "smilies" I use in my posts are available to everyone - they're in the Forum FAQ.
