multiplayer FLASH games

I have been trying to figure out what is needed to create multiplayer flash games.. What is the minimum needed?? actionsctipr?? flash communication server? flash remoting?? c++ socket programming?? anyone have a book to recommend or just give me the basic so I can search in the right direction ?

Flash can talk with just about anything socket-wise (with the sandbox restriction that the server live at the same address as the one that launched the applet, same as Java), so your choice of what to use as a server can pretty-much be dictated by the game you're writing.

If your budget is limited, check out AMFPHP. It's a free PHP-based server that's compatible with Flash Remoting, which is an XML-based message passing protocol built into Flash. That, in conjunction with MySQL is a cheap way to start.
