I'm currently developing a (very simplistic)3D engine in Managed DirectX, and I want to look into developing a simple terrain engine. I'm not really into randomly generating terrain, but in loading an actual terrain from file, rendering it completely with houses, vegitation, and other inanimate objects. I have really NO idea where to start and since MDX is very different from DX(Lots of functionality is wrapped up) I'm wondering if there are some good tutorials on the subject out there. Toolmaker

Hi there Toolmaker,
I was also replying on another thread awhile ago on rendering terrain, you might want to check out that thread and I will also paste a link to my code for simple heightmapped terrain rendering..

Managed DirectX and C# terrain.

previous thread

If you want a simpler version without any quadtrees implemented. (I do apologize for the state of the Terrain, I quickly tried to clean it out of my QuadTree and make it a stand alone class.)
