is it useful of making a .3ds loader ?

Hi, I have heard that there is a lib which load these files, would i learn something by creating my own .3ds loader ? I'm beginner.

Well, I'd say that you would probably learn something, you'd definitly know more about the 3ds filetype, and you would also have that knowledge there incase the need ever arises to write another loader for a different filetype. So, if you think your up to it, I'd go ahead and do it. Also, if you need information about the 3ds filetype, go to The Programmer's File Format Collection. Good luck.

i agree in the special point about .3ds it is usefull to write your own parser, so u learn about how models / meshes are stored.
on the other hand, as a beginner (and more as a pro?) u shouldn´t code everything yourself.
there are libs like lib3ds (?) or meshlib or 1000 others that are stable and used by thousand other ppl, so u can rely that this part of your programm run smooth.
