OpenGL SetViewport() MinZ

Are you meant to be able to set D3DVIEWPORT9.MinZ to -1 when calling SetViewport() ? This would be very cool as it would alow the same perspective projection as OpenGL. When i tried this, SetViewport() succeeds, but verticies are still clipped if z < 0.

Avoiding using D3DX. Not a problem to make the perspective projection function a virtual member of the renderer class, the main question was why either clipping z [-1,1] didn't work or SetViewport() return D3DERR_INVALIDCALL.
