OpenGL Effects / Overlays

Hi, I'm trying to create a small opengl-system consisting of Effect-classes, the idea was to have one class for each effect. What I'm wondering is, how do I best put these "on top" of each other? I'm guessing this is called overlays or something, should i use blending? - Morten

and disable depth writing (but keep reading on! ) before drawing each particle...

glDepthMask(false);
//...draw particles
glDepthMask(true);
