ALT-TAB resource question (Visual Basic/DX8)

Hi, I'm at that stage where I've had enough of 'alt-tab' not working, but this is a little trickier than I thought... I know you have to 'release' / 'free' your D3DPOOL_DEFAULT resources before resetting the device but I have no idea what this means. I get this error in the debug view: [4008] Direct3D8: (ERROR) :All user created D3DPOOL_DEFAULT surfaces must be freed before Reset can succeed. Reset Fails But, my vertex buffer objects don't have a 'release' or 'free' method like I see people doing in C++ samples. I tried setting them " = NOTHING" but that didn't help. Anybody done this successfully? I can't used managed resources for everything, so I have to figure this out... For instance, here's a VB: Set mVertexBuffer = mD3DDevice.CreateVertexBuffer(mlVertexSize * mlMaxVertices, D3DUSAGE_WRITEONLY Or D3DUSAGE_DYNAMIC, FVF, D3DPOOL_DEFAULT) What do I need to do to this VB before I can reset the device?
