I am making a real time strategy game, and I was having a hard time deciding what types of terrain to create for it. I am almost done with the map editor; this is one the last things I have to do for it. Any ideas would really help. The other thing I have to do is when a new map is made, have a win32 dialog box pop up that gets the width and height of the map. I tried looking for a way to do this on msdn, but I cant find my way around on that site at all. I don't know how to use win32 stuff much, just message boxes and save dialogs. I am using c++.

There are many ways of creating terrain, your best bet is just to choose one that suits you. Height fields are very simple to get started with though, and you can use something like Perlin noise to create a pretty interesting one.

As for the dialog box - use the DialogBox function in Win32 or CreateDialog, depending on whether you want the dialog to be modal or not.
