Module sort

I am making a engine of game. But Module sort confuse me. I read many engine source code.and every engine module is different. "HOW" and "WHY" to sort a Module this way? Why this stuff(class)put into these module instead of something else. Modules commonly are divided into AI BSP physics network scenemanage input/control etc... So this kinds of sort MUST have REASON. I think and GUESS 2 possible reason: 1. according to custom of human and science sort. this reason is not good. 2. according to programming . example: extendable and maintainable and reusable and effiency of programming. Puting some analog into a mudule and able to get architect of a base class and derived class to facilitate developing. SIMPLIFY IT:what is reason and basis of Module sorting?
