Hi there Tokaplan,
How are you doing?

[The problem]
You are looking for a way to do a bump mapping effect without using DirectX support (via Shaders).
I don't clearly understand this but let me rephrase.

You are looking at how to do shaders without all the renderstate setting and blending operatings. If so.

[The Solution]
I wrote a simple Normal Mapping (Bump mapping Tutorial) for people starting out on shaders and want a brief starter.

The bump mapping tutorial.
This uses HLSL (High level shading language) and can be implemented in DX aswell as OGL with minor changes.
