Effect techniques when resetting

Hi there Does DirectX handle the case where the current technique becomes invalid after a reset? For instance, I believe you can change the vertex processing mode with Reset, but if a technique was using software vertex processing and you changed the mode to hardware then that technique would become invalid. I basically need to know what the OnResetDevice function of the effect does, to know whether I should check the techniques on every reset. I would test it but my card supports vs 2.0 and ps 2.0 so I can't :( Cheers!
