gathering input

How can I gather an input from the user and put it to use? In c++ its cin>>a ; where a is a stored type... cheers John

I assume you are asking if OpenGL has any input features, since you put this in the OpenGL forum. The answer is that OpenGL doesn't provide any input handling. How are you generating your GL window? If you are using SDL you can use SDL's input functions, GLUT provides its own input functions, and you can use the Windows message loop if you generated the window with the raw Win32 API.
