Using Flash for Menu System

So, I know there are a number of libraries floating around out there that play SWFs, I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on any that are particularly good? What I'm looking for is something that can integrate tightly into a C++ application so that the front end can be designed using Flash. Not really interested in using the ActiveX control to play back an SWF movie, was hoping to find something that runs them 'natively' I guess. I've seen gplflash, but it doesn't seem to support later versions of flash... If anyone has an alternate suggestions on a menu system toolkit, I'm all ears, but I doubt there's anything out there that can really rival the flexibility/speed/ease of use of Flash... /bd

Take a look at gameswf for sure. Last time I checked it was not feature complete but all the code is there so you could work with it.

The one big problem I found with flash files for front end is that, when you export the swf, there is no data dictating where any of the textures come from. If you want to share textures across the front end, or change shared textures, you have to re-export the swf file.

Unfortunately, the source file format for shockwave flash files is not open, only the published SWF file.

If anyone knows a way around this, please let me know.ç

I'll definitely have a close look at gameswf. That's a good point about the shared textures though... it also looks like gameswf isn't feature complete, could require some degree of tweaking with to get it working in all cases...

Just as an alternative to using Flash, aside from writing something custom to handle 2D animation/interface - is there something that exists out there? It's easy enough to write a simple XML layout type tool and translate that into some simple rendering, but what that is lacking is a good workflow tool for artists... I haven't seen anything around that provides a good tool for visually designing 2D interfaces and animation... but maybe I'm wrong?

Just seems surprising to me that there aren't either more libraries available for using SWF files, or that there aren't other competing libraries/toolsets... I guess why reinvent the wheel when Flash does it so well...
