Im using OpenGL for the graphics and coding the win32 aspect myself. (no wrapper or anything like SDL that covers it). This is going to be a pretty simple game and engine that I want to setup for another game I have in mind. But I dont know if I should use OpenAL, Ogg Vorbis, DirectMusic/Sound or what for playing music and sound. Please help! Thanks

FMod is a great sound library. You'll have to buy a commercial license if you plan on selling your product. It's very easy to use and is actually very powerful.

Few background questions:

What kind of music?
- mp3s?
- oggs?
- large wave files? (my personal favourite, seriously)
- midis?

My style is to decode oggs into memory blocks, then use streaming sound buffers (direct sound) to play the music (all decompressed in ram).

Initially I found DX sound to be complicated, but after a while it wasn't that bad... I'm sure what ever you choose you can make it work, and be happy with it. :)
