Black & White 2 - Shadows

Hi, As far as i've seen most objects in B&W2 casts soft shadow. Does anyone have an idea how they do it. In a static environment I wouldn't care, but B&W2 allows to build new objects and there are sunrises and sunsets too. At least the terrain isn't lit correctly AFAIK (IMO one of the greatest problems to do it correctly). Thanks in advance for any insight.

I didn't think you could do that... for a start, the stencil buffer is very much all or nothing.

You might be able to if you used a texture as your "stencil buffer", I don't know, and havn't really thought about it. But are you sure they aren't just good old projected shadows? They could also be shadow maps, there are ways of blurring them.

just about every next-gen engine that uses shadow buffers blurs them as it's relativly cheap to do on the hardware now.
