[.net] Multiple Sockets

I've made a chat program with a separate file sharing component. Both run off the same socket. Would it be more efficient to run two simultaneous sockets? Would it speed up the process or minimise CPU usage? What issues am I looking at with both ways of doing this? How would threading help? If at all? Thanks.
