Saving animation data

Im exporting data from maya into binary files and loading them into OpenGL. I was wondering what would be my best bet for saving animation data. I know saving every frame isn't possible unless I have a very smile file to begin with. But for something that already has a starting file size of 3 megs with no animation, what should I do? Thanks.
