int getch(void)

only #include <conio.h> the getch() will work fine. where is its defination ? how to use int getch(void) instead of <conio.h> for declaration?

if what you want is to use the getch() function without including <conio.h>, simply put somewhere in your code the protoype: int getch(void), as you said.
if its a c++ file, put extern "C" int getch(void);
