floats local transformations?(novodex?)

Hi I am working on the layout of my next engine and since the maps sizes will be pretty large *4 to 16 times as large as halflife1's* i will get trouble with floatingpoint precision what i thought of was to do something like this octree ... each leaf stores its geometry in a local coordinate system and when rendering it i push the matrix stack accordingly the map sizes are (-8192,+8192) player size == 72.0f as in quake engine series also does novodex support local transformations or does this require manual transformations at runtime? thx in advance
