direct x n' open gl

They are the API's that are usually used for rendering the game. DirectX does more such as offering sound and networking.

Both DirectX and OpenGL have nearly the same graphics features (like bump mapping, fog, etc.)

They're technologies that do things for you, helping with hardware access and providing commonly-used bits of functionality.

DirectX includes services for using graphics, sound, input, and networking.

OpenGL is purely focused on graphics.
