SHORT: Does it matter if I have directX9.0cruntime installed, but for programming I install the directX 9.0 SDK? Do the two have to match? LONG: I have DX9.0c installed, and (b/c I am using VC6) the latest DX SDK I have is the Oct 2004 update. Of course the book I got is written for DX9.0. I'm having a ton of problems because of the changes from DX9 to DX9c. I'm considering starting fresh and installing the DX9 SDK that came with the book, but does it matter if I also install DirectX9.0c runtime?

No, DirectX is backwards compatible due to it's COM nature. You should be able to run DirectX 1.0 application with the latest DirectX redistributable libraries.
