Quake 3 Modding question

Hello everyone! I read the Focus on mod Programming for Quake 3 Arena. However the cd doesn't have the q3 source. I downloaded it from premierpressbooks.com though. However after installing it in my c:\quake3 folder, I compiled it and everything and I ran it through quake using this command, quake3.exe +set fs_game MyMod +set sv_pure 0 +map q3dm17 However, when i run it, Quake3 doesn't show any changes. How did you guuys setup for Quake Modding envirment? I compiled Quake3 as a Release using VC++ 6.0. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Did you make any changes to the source code before compiling? If not then you will get the same game as standard Quake 3.
