Why did you even bother with the second comment?

Sorry. I just find there to be a high correlation between Vim/Emacs users and people who resist modern assistive software tools.

Back in the 80s, you could get keyboards with CTRL where Caps Lock is now.

The Sparcstations I used at UNC Greensboro were like that - and they rocked! I'm with you: the current position of Ctrl sucks.

The home row is a lie. It's not a productive positioning for your hands, and on a standard non-ergo keyboard I strongly suspect it's responsible for, or at least contributes to, hand problems from basic pains right through CTS.

There is a reason Emacs is still around after 20 years......and I bet it is still here in 20 more, long after MS falls and MSVS is long gone.

Just kidding...but Emacs really is outstanding. I use MSVS, Emacs and Eclipse quite a bit. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Emacs enables a very effective workflow. You can build/compile/debug without ever touching the mouse. You can even check your mail and browse newsgroups. It is free and definitely worth trying...

:-)
