apply texture on 3d mesh

Hi I want to apply 2d image as texture on 3d mesh (like cat or dog face) in directX. But when I apply it thru SetTexture method, It not comes on the whole face rather it breaks ans show multiple 2d images on face. I think the aproach shoud be cylindrically project the texture image on 3d mesh but I dont know how to do that. Can anybody help meto apply texture image on this mesh. thnx

The Problem
Applying texture to a mesh.

The Solution
The problem you are experiencing is that the texture coordinates on the mesh is not what you would like it to be. Thus the texture will either be wrapped around the face or you will get other unexpected effects. One solution would be to open this model in a modeling package such as 3dsmax or Blender and try to fix the UV mapping coordinates. I cannot think of anything else that might cause this off hand.
