I know that DirectX 10/WGF is slated for Vista/Longhorn and is going to be tied to the new driver architecture. Question to those who went to Meltdown '05, GDCs and/or some of these gaming roadshows/conferences Microsoft has been presenting at... What's Microsoft's story for game developers who want to target DirectX on WinXP in addition to Vista? Is there any hint at backporting DirectX 10 (or a subset) to WinXP? Or are we going to have to aim at DX9.x and/or have to support two versions of DirectX out of the box? Edit: eliminated some odd whitespace [Edited by - MauMan on September 6, 2005 6:33:15 PM]

From what I understand, there will be a version of DX9 called DX 9.L which will be DirectX 9 but using the new driver architecture. So you should be able to target DX9 and have it run on both XP and Vista. Targeting DX9 and DX10 would probably be a chore and a half, considering how different they seem to be!
