SQL and EXCEL

if i had a php form, outputting the results to a sql database, could i download tht file and open it in excel?

What kind of SQL database? SQL is a language for interacting with databases, not a database in itself. If you are using say, SQL Server, you can use Enterprise Manager to export a table or query as an Excel spreadsheet.

your best bet would be to use php to output comma seperated values (.csv). Should be pretty simple to write in php, and Excel imports csv fine. If you use mysql, phpmyadmin will export csv for you (even the slightly mysteriously titled 'csv for ms excel data').
