mod weapons and xml
Hi,
i want to mod my weapons in the game i making eg: a silencer +2 stealth -1 reload speed i was wondering how i could do that and also how should i store it. i was thinking a xml document but than hardcore game hackers could change their weapons from the game's directory
and help would be great
Lots of games store their "rules" in some sort of human-friendly format such as XML or INI. If you're concerned about multiplayer, then you need to compare the rules on each computer to make sure that they are compatible. There's usually not much that you can do about singleplayer, though. You just have to decide whether the added flexibility is worth the chance that someone might use it to cheat in singleplayer.

And it doesn't really matter if someone cheats in singleplayer game. If someone wants to spoil his gameplay experience, it's he's problem, you don't have to care about it.
If you're worried about people playing around with such files, encrypt them. A simple XOR scheme would probably suffice, it'll stop a typical gamer playing around with them, a determined hacker would probably crack it rather easily however a determined hacker would probably also crack a more sophisticated scheme. For multiplayer simply give the server the authority, that is all clients use the server's version of the files.
