Simulating weather
Hi everyone,
it's not really a game developing question, but since I'm planning to use a game engine, I think the question fits in this forum.
Ok, for a theatre play we need a view over an ocean with changing weather effects. I tried modelling an ocean with Terragen and rendered some images with different weather effects. That worked pretty well but on the one hand it looks pretty boring since nothing is happening (no moving waves, no moving clouds) and when i'm changing to another weather effect there is a cut and no smooth fade.
So after some time the idea came to my mind to use a game engine for the whole project.
The "only" thing that the program would have to do is simulate a great basin of water, with some waves and a whole load of weather effects (cloudy sky, sunlight, night, thunderstorms). The programming is not really the problem, but finding an engine that supports all the weather effects is kind of hard.
So I wanted to ask if there is an engine out there (preferably a free one) that can simulate those weather effects without a whole lot of programming efforts.
Thanks,
klaustopher
if you ask me you arnt going to be able to do that with out doing a bit of programing. are you looking for realism or just a fade to __?___ effect?
Ask from 3d animators and modellers.

Of course, it's supposed to look somewhat realistic, since it's going to be projected on a 3*4m screen.
And I also know that it'll take a lot of programming, but I just hope to find an engine that has several weather effects already built in, so that I wouldn't have to write them all by myself, because I have no experience in programming such things whatsoever.
