I'm creating a 3d maze game that will have 2d sprites in it. I was just wondering what the best way to handle the memory management would be. There will probably be about 100MB worth of bitmap data that I will want loaded all at once. What is the best way to store this? I can't just throw it all into texture memory because my system and a lot of target systems will not have enough. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. mike http://www.coolgroups.com/

Textures can also go into system memory. Its just slower. But if the sprites wont all be used at the same time you could load only the needed ones for an area. That could save a lot of memory.

Can you use glTexImage2d somehow to specify a sprite in system memory?

Or do you have to keep calling glTexSubImage2d to keep swapping from system to texture memory?
