Hey, I'm using the allegro game engine (with Dev-Cpp) to make a side scrolling platform game and I can't decide something. For tiling, should I use a 2d array or MappyAL. MappyAL might be better because I'm kind of new and might have trouble with some collisions and Mappy can make tiles either foreground or background. I appreciate any help, thanks alot!

Use as few external libraries as possible. Particularly for something as simple as a side scrolling tile map game.

You won't have much difficulty with anything:

- Rendering the tilemap (dead easy)
- Clipping the objects (ensuring that things don't go through each other) (easy)
- Collision detection - object/object for monsters and shots and stuff (easy)

If your levels are relatively small you can just have all objects active the whole time; this isn't a classic strategy on a scrolling platformer but it would work especially on modern machines.
