Im new to the server, and would like a bit of info please. I have a friend I did a 3d model for using 3d studio max 6, but he wants it in x format, how can i convert it please, as i dont seem to have that extension in 3d studio. Is there a program that will convert it, or do i need another 3d modelling program, cos right now im out of work, and have no money, so a downloadable program would be great. If there is one. Thank you.

Yup that link above is good.

Panda Exporter
http://www.andytather.co.uk/Panda/directxmax.aspx

is what I use. Its good since you can cut out the garbage you don't need. Only problem is that it does everything inline. I just open and resave using the mesh view utility that comes with the dx sdk.

Doesn't the DirectX SDK come with an exporter for 3D studio MAX? I just checked my DirectX SDK directory, and it has a plugin for MAX 7. Maybe if you get an older version of the SDK you will be able to export from version 6?

Yeah, download the dxsdk here, and in the Utilities/Bin/x86 folder (IIRC) is a util called "conv3ds.exe". Works very well, you have to run it from the command line. (Google if you don't know how) Run it with no parameters the first time, and it will tell you how to use it. Good luck!
