handhelds game dev

Are there handhelds that you can actually program for much the same way as for a computer. Basically that run DX etc, have a reasonable graphics card, speed and maybe basic shader functionality? -CProgrammer

yeah what your looking for is PSP or a laptop. or wait a few years ;)

Handhelds are generally two generations behind the current consoles coming out -- so look at what was available two generations ago, and that is what you get to work with on the newest handhelds. Example: when gamecube was out, the gba had SNES graphics. Now that revolution is coming out, you have n64 graphics. Now that ps3 is coming out, you get ps1 graphics on a handheld.

Or, that is what I noticed, at least. So if you want to develop, look two generations ago for the tools you can probably work with (plus, a little modern knowledge).
