I'm writing an application which will rely heavily on its UI and I'm planning to make it look and behave fairly non-standard. The app will be developed on Linux and use OpenGL. So, what I'm interested in is finding which libraries I can use to speed up development. I've seen that GTK+ provides much of the logic for GUI's, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is easily customized so that I can add custom button images\shapes (does anyone know if Glade will allow this as well?) and new menu item behaviors - example: a dial wheel of buttons. Would it be easier to just use SDL and start from scratch on something custom? Thanx

If you're using OpenGL, I'd take a look at Crazy Eddie's GUI (http://www.cegui.org.uk/modules/news/) as it does most of what you'd expect.

The caveat with rolling your own is that the first 90% comes really easy, and the last 10% take forever :) Especially tools such as UI editors, or complex widgets such as drop-downs, multi-line rich ediors, etc.
