I have a c++ program which compiles with visual c++ .net 2003, but won't compile on linux with g++. The error is on this line, and it says there is no matching function for the call. Any ideas. throw exception("No info file");

std::exception(), according to the standard, doesn't have a constructor that takes a const char * as an argument. MSVC, however, provides one, which causes difficulties in porting code. You'll need to use a different exception class, like std::runtime_error.
