2d rts engine?
hi,
i was thinking because my next project is a rts could i use a 2d enginefor it? it has no zooming, i think this could work because all rts don't have a zbuffer (age of empires)
thanks
Do you mean 2D but looking a bit 3D like Warcraft I/II, or a fully top-down 2D game like Oberon_Command's (look on www.devimg.net for the mostly green screenshot)

I'm releasing my source code once it's done, so you'll be able to take a look at it.
You can get that 3D feel to a 2D game by what is called '2.5D' rendering. This is basically achieved by rendering from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen. This means that objects at the top of the screen will be rendered first, so they will appear to be behind objects lower in the screen. This is because the objects lower in the screen are rendered after those above them, so will be on top of them.
I will post example source code if you would like [smile]
