Hi. I was looking through the DirectX sample apps and noticed that most of them (those that use the sample frameworks) do their camera stuff an effect instead of with matrix assignments to the device. Is there a substantial benefit to doing it that way or are they just using that to demonstrate an effect? I came across this during an experiment to test something, and was modifying one of the samples. And it made it kinda tricky to slip an additional mesh into the scene. It seems harder to maintain than a simple series of matrix assignments is what I'm saying so does one gain something in return?

I didn't look at it but it's probably because camera stuff is common to all effects so you could set it once per frame and all your effects using cam values would be OK.
