I was wondering if there is any way to use sound/music in a c++ console app (NOT win32 enabled). I'm well versed in the C++ language, so any new skills I would need to learn shouldn't be a problem. I've done some searchin and all I could find were sdl/allegro style libraries used with win32 apps and win API. Is there any way to get sound in the plain old black console style programs? Thanks in advance.

Well basically no. You have to access sound hardware through the OS and C++ doesn't provide a standard API to do this. Unless you're programming for a really simple OS like DOS where you can access the hardware directly you'll have to pick some API to do it.
