I'm wanting to use .DDS DXT5 format images loaded from resources, and was wondering if I needed to use a certain function or Format.DXT5 to open them, or if simply being an image in the .DDS format is enough to let them program know they are compressed? Thanks, Cyric

If you use the D3DXCreateTextureFrom* functions, all you need to do is give it the file name. The function will take care of checking the type of data it is and load it appropriately.

use D3DXCreateTextureFromFileEX(,,,,,,D3DFMT_DXT5.......)
if the device does not support the DXT Format it will return a D3DFMT_A8R8G8B8
Format
