Level Scene Another question

Guys my team decided to use an DX X Mesh for rendering the levels of the scene both indoors and outdoors, Well were planning to implement it using an Octree for the scene. now Im asking you guys is this effective? What other things can u suggest for optimazation aside from octree and occlusion culling the scene?

Obvious other options to implement would be LOD and Frustrum Culling ;)
