hi i have to implement an activeX for the microsoft internet explorer, which should download some files from an http web server like apache. the problem is if the user is behind a http proxy server (LAN -> Internet) and for the connection we need a user and a password to logon, i have to ask two times at the moment for the user and password. because the iexplorer needs an autorization and then my activeX (C++ , ocx) i like to use the Iexplorer's user/password, or i like to implement nothing for doing the autorization. how can i use the iexplorer connection (http) the plugin should run on as much as possible version of windows. win98 and greater if possible. thanks adegli

The functions in wininet.dll should help. There is a function called InternetOpenUrl. Here is a list of functions in wininet.dll.

This page provides a little extra information

Wininet.dll is available on most platforms except the first edition of Windows 95.

The method I am pointing out here will automagically use the proxy, meaning you don't need to ask for proxy credentials. You might want to find a tutorial that explains all this in more detail.

thanks,

i read the documentations u sent me by ref. the url. but i am not sure, this
will help me, because i have an user and an password to set, and i don't like
to ask the user for this at runtime twice. or what exactly answers the methode
InternetGetProxyInfo, the user and the password, if yes, where can this methode
retrieve this information from? is this only running under windows explorer autorization or will this information be avaible for all windows based application including my activeX ?
