You can open the file, load it into a buffer, pass it through your checksum function and there you go.

not going to post the file open/close/read stuff, but here is the CRC32. You can google for other checksums if there is something specific you are looking for.

//CRC32
//*****
//Generates a 32 bit CRC for the data buffer of given size
unsigned long CRC32 ( const unsigned char *buff, size_t sz )
{
unsigned long crc = 0xFFFFFFFF;
unsigned long cnt1 = 0;

for ( cnt1 = 0; cnt1 < sz; cnt1++ )
{
unsigned long iTable = (buff[cnt1] ^ crc) & 0xFF;
crc >>= 8;
crc ^= crc_table[iTable];
}
crc ^= 0xFFFFFFFF;

return crc;
}

You can also remove the
unsigned long crc = 0xFFFFFFFF;
and make it another function parameter, so that you can just

unsigned long crc = 0xFFFFFFFF;
do
Read 1024 bytes
crc = crc32(buffer,1024,crc);
loop while still data in the file.

if the file is too big to bother loading in
