bsp exporter

i want to read a 3ds file or any mesh file and construct a bsp tree and export it to a file with all info necessary for culling and collision detection, i don't want to use the quake format i shall make my own loaders and exporters to have full control over update and tuning... do you advice me to do this... the reason for what i want to do is to use Max directly for indoor games. Please help me in this
