Blender SubSurf

I have recently spent quite a long time modelling a space shuttle in Blender for a Practical Arts assignment. I needed to print off some screenshots from the top and side, so I subsurfed it. In my haste, I deleted the old mesh, saved my work, and exited. So I have the screenshots printed off, but now I need to add some bits to it. The problem is, I would really rather do it without the model subsurfed, so I was wondering if there was any way to undo a SubSurf after the old mesh has been deleted, the file saved, and the program exited and restarted. I don't think there is, but if anybody knows of any solutions, help would really be appreciated.
