Read data from FBO

I'm rendering to a (floating point) framebuffer object and I would like to read back the pixel data to the CPU. I'm currently using glreadpixels but it's taking about 1 second for a 512X512 image! This can't be right.

glReadPixels is slow, but should not be that slow. Make sure you are using a good color format BGRAF or something similar as those can be faster (test with some different formats and see if it improves performance). On NVidia hardware you can also look at the PBO extension for asynchroneous readbacks.
