Hi guys, I have DX9.0c installed. And when I installed the older DX9 SDK, I couldn't open the DirectX control panel to choose retail or debug version; WinXP complained it is an older DX9. I uninstalled the DX SDK and I installed the newer SDK update but they do not seem to include the basic project samples that came with the older DX9 SDK. I only need the basic 3D stuff, not the advanced stuff like shaders. Please advise. Thank you!

What I do is install the most recent version. Then, if you come on to something that you want, find one of the older releases and unzip it to a temp directory (but don't install it). Then you can look through the raw installer files, which is pretty much the exact same structure as the final DXSDK dir.

Also, the newer SDKs always come with Readme's that are available online. Always read them first, and you will avoid having issues where things that you need for a certain project are removed.
