Hey, Im New
Hey guys, just like to say Hello to the programmers of the world. Um we'll I was just thinking of introducing myself cause it usllay breaks the ice. Currently I am studying VisualBasic.Net In Tech (School) only takes me so far though and i was wanting to continue and further my knowledge on it, possibly create a few games here and there. So if people could give tips I'd be great. Ive just finished at Dimensional Arrays, so well if you know more that could help me out for games or were to get started I'd be mighty greatful. Im going to push the big search button now to see if anyones got any good tips.
Cheers, Slavender
Welcome to the wonderful world of programming! It sounds like you're just starting out, but if you know as much as arrays, you could probably make a few simple games. I only dabbled in VB several years ago before I switched to C/C++, so I'm not familiar with VB's capabilities in game programming, but I'm sure they're there.
My advice? Do lots of programming in your free time. Read articles on this site and others. Always be out looking to expand your knowledge. Starting your own mini-library of programming books couldn't hurt, either. It's nice to have some books lying around to look at when you have a question or need to brush up on a subject. You should also look into learning multiple languages. C++ and Java are two of the most dominant programming languages, so knowing at least one of these will definitely help. *waves his flag showing support for C++*
All in all, just keep at it. As I said, it might be a while before you can really get into game programming, so make sure you have a good grasp of the language before you dive in.

Welcome [smile]
Well, looks like you at least know a bit where you are going. Programming for games is no different than programming business software at the basic level. Just continue to learn the language, and, as you progress, try and ask yourself how the concepts and language features you learn could be used in a video game.
PS: The search button is a trap a myth not working for the moment. But there's always [google]
