I've been working on a smallish text adventure game for a while now. The engine seems to work and now I am working on building some sort of basic scripting into it with some methods to parse it all. Me and a friend (who is writing the story behind it) were wondering about how difficult it would be to turn this into a MUD. What would be involved to do this? Could I write an applet in a browser or should I write something in swing that telnets into the server meaning I won't have to write my own GUI. Would a simple webserver be able to handle this kind of stuff or would I pretty much need to have my own box hooked upto the net?
