I'm currently working on my final year computer science project, and I'm aiming to have a decently functional game by April, so I really need to work fast. I'm currently working as a game developer but it's all 2D using an in house framework. I really don't want to reinvent the wheel were I don't have to. This leads me to my question: I was wondering what Libraries, if any, you all use for game development? I am a big advocate of the STL and have been using it for a while, and have recently discovered Boost, which I think could be a big help (ie, not having to implement my own math functions, quaternions, smart pointers, etc). Are there any other libraries you guys (or girls) use to speed up your development process? (D3DX doesn't count, as it is an OpenGL project (must compile under windows, and linux would be nice, but not necessary)).

tinyxml for xml. Surprisingly.
zlib, libpng, libjpg for images.
mpglib for mp3s.
all the ogg vorbis stuff.

Anything else I roll myself, best way to learn I've found.

I've heard good things about SDL + OpenAL.

Thanks for the info, I actually use SDL right now and I'm a big fan of it. I've been fighting with devIL for images, so I can't really comment on how good it is until I get it working :D. I dont really know much about the different sound libraries, but I may have to check them out.

If you are using SDL, why not use SDL_image? It's so easy - the library is basically one function that loads any image type into an SDL_Surface.
