What is J#'s purpose?

Rather than it being a good IDE to program Java, then switch my code to a real JDK, I don't get J#'s purpose. For example, I get pathetic errors like "Cannot find type 'ArrayList<int>'". I doubt anyone has an idea either, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks.

If you're looking for a good Java IDE, you might like Eclipse. J# and Java don't have the same API, that might be why you are getting those errors.

Is the MS "Brand" of Java.

It's really meant for existing projects created with Visual J++ that wish to migrate up to .NET.

It offered some access to the Win32 API via java-like syntax, but really, what's the point? If you want Java do Java.

Anyhoo, that's why it's mostly there.
