I have to programm a visualation of a music-file (mp3) in Java. I am thinking of an isometric view to a 3d-Equalizer with fancy light-effects. Features: - File open dialog - Play/pause/stop/... Buttons - File-Info (maybe statusbar) - The 3d-view The question is: Which technique should i use ? jogl (OpenGL) sounds nice, but maybe a little overhead, I heard that java3d is dying, LWJGL for game-programming. Some advices pease :)

Jogl tends to have reliability and stability issues. LWJGL is much better in this area, and would be recommended. You can still embed a LWJGL display in a Swing, AWT or SWT frame if you want to use standard widgets.

JOGL works just fine. Java3D is not dying. Sun is no longer developing it like it used to. Instead it is now a community project that a few Sun engineers helping out. I would recommend JOGL or LWJGL. I don't think you really need a scenegraph like Java3D for what you want to do but it will work if you want to use it.
